100 billion soums will be allocated for tree planting in 2025, tree care costs will be included in the investment program

In 2025, an additional 100 billion soums will be allocated for the implementation of the Yashil Makon tree planting project, the President of Uzbekistan said. Now the investment program will include expenses for three-year tree care, and the management of 16 million hectares of pasture land will be transferred to the Veterinary Committee.

In addition, the investment program will now also include expenses for three-year tree care, disease protection and irrigation.

Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and Director of the Forestry Agency Nizomiddin Bakirov must conduct two irrigation experiments. In particular, drilling one well will be allowed in 27 districts. In the mountains of the Gallyaral district, 10 geomembranes will be installed to collect rain and melt (snow) water and create an irrigation system for trees.

In the spring, tree planting using the terrace method will begin on the slopes of mountains and hills in 14 districts on an area of 500 hectares. This is a technique in which trees are planted on specially created terraces on slopes or hills. This method is used to prevent soil erosion and to retain moisture more effectively. Terraces are stepped sections of land leveled horizontally on a slope. Water that flows down the slope is retained on the terraces, which allows trees to better absorb it and receive nutrients.

The President instructed khokims to allocate 1 hectare for the creation of green areas and 0.5 hectares for public parks as part of the Mening Bogim (My Garden) project. These areas will be posted on the Open Budget portal before the sowing season, where recommendations on tree species and their cost will be indicated. At the same time, a warning system will be introduced via a mobile application for individuals who have shown irresponsibility in caring for plantings.

The khokims of the regions have been instructed to provide all Improvement Departments with 20 mini-equipment for irrigation within two years.

The President noted that dust storms have become more frequent in our country recently. This, along with global climate change, is facilitated by illegal logging, depletion of water resources, and degradation of pastures by 50% as a result of uncontrolled grazing. The diversity of plant species in the steppe has also sharply decreased.

The head of state emphasized that in the current conditions of population growth, pastures are the largest reserve for ensuring food security.

In this regard, it was decided to transfer the management of 16 million hectares of pasture lands to the Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development. The Committee was instructed to prepare a three-year program to bring deserts out of degradation. Next year, grant funds in the amount of $50 million will be attracted for these purposes.

The Uzbekcosmos Agency discovered that in the Bukhara and Navoi regions, vegetation that holds back sand and wind has disappeared on an area of 35 hectares. In this regard, responsible persons have been instructed to increase the area of green spaces in the desert and semi-desert areas of these two regions.

A platform for monitoring the environmental situation in deserts will be created jointly with the Uzbekcosmos agency.

In addition, it is planned to increase the responsibility of the Forestry Agency in this area. Now it will also be engaged in combating desertification, and the Yul Kukalam organizations under the khokimiyats will be transferred to the agency system.

The agency has been instructed to adapt and grow more than 100 million seedlings that correspond to the climate of each region, and reduce the cost of growing them by 20%.

The agency has been tasked with creating, together with the Academy of Sciences, an experimental site on 20 hectares and growing plants that restore degraded pastures.

At the meeting, the president reported that over a million trees were planted on lands without an irrigation system or were attributed in reports within the framework of the Yashil Makon project. "Why is the Deputy Prosecutor General sitting silently? What are 75 employees doing? Where is the control?" the head of state asked.

In addition, the "mahalla seven" will distribute fruit tree seedlings to low-income families in each mahalla and lonely elderly people as part of the "Yashil Makon" project. Trees are also planned to be planted on the territory of schools, universities, hospitals, along roads and other places.
