Uzbekistan and India discuss the use of poultry genetic potential in the republic
Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz News Agency. A meeting of the leadership of the Veterinary and Livestock Development Committee of Uzbekistan and the Parrandasanoat Association with representatives of a large Indian genetic company was held in Tashkent. The main topic of the negotiations was the creation of capacities for the production of poultry breeding material for meat production in Uzbekistan, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports. This dialogue is part of the implementation of the decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated June 27, 2024, aimed at supporting the poultry industry. One of the key aspects of the program is the introduction of modern genetic technologies, as well as the development of cooperation in the industry.
An Indian genetic company has proposed opening a joint venture in Uzbekistan with the participation of local capital. Such an enterprise will strengthen the genetic base of poultry farming in the republic.
The plan consists of two stages:
The first stage (2024-2025): the creation of an enterprise for growing a pure line of poultry.
The second stage (2025): opening of a first-order reproductive enterprise for meat production for 100 thousand heads and one hatchery.
The goal of this cooperation is to produce up to 4 million heads of second-order reproducer birds (parent flock) for the needs of Central Asian countries. This will allow Uzbekistan to significantly reduce transportation costs for importing breeding material and increase the competitiveness of domestic poultry farming.
The Indian and Uzbek sides also discussed the prospects for increasing production capacity with subsequent export of products outside Uzbekistan.
The development of cooperation between the countries will not only strengthen the genetic base of the republic's poultry industry, but will also open up new opportunities for export to regional and international markets.
This initiative reflects Uzbekistan's desire to modernize its agro-industrial sector, ensure food security and develop competitive agriculture.
Reference. In the context of poultry farming, genetic potential refers to the hereditary characteristics of a bird that affect its productivity in terms of meat or egg production. For example, a bird with high genetic potential may have better weight gain, high egg production or resistance to diseases.
Using genetic potential involves selecting and breeding the most productive and resistant lines, which helps improve the productivity and economic efficiency of agricultural enterprises.
