Measures have been defined for the development of intensive fish farming and energy-saving lemon cultivation
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on accelerating intensive fish farming projects and creating energy-saving greenhouses for growing lemons.
The fish industry has been tasked with increasing fish production volumes based on intensive technologies and reaching a target of 1 million tons of output per year. During the presentation, plans were reviewed using the example of Balykchi District to harness the potential of reclamation wells to achieve this goal.
It is planned to create intensive fish farming complexes around 24 wells in the district, covering the entire production cycle — from providing fry and feed to fish breeding, processing, storage, and sales. Within each project, designed for an area of 50 sotkas, it is envisaged to grow at least 30 tons of trout annually and create 10 jobs.
To manage the projects within a unified system, it was proposed to establish a fish farming holding company.
In order to spread the experience of Balykchi District to other regions, it was instructed to conduct an inventory of more than 4,000 reclamation wells across the republic by March 1, 2027. Wells suitable for fish farming are planned to be transferred to advanced entrepreneurs under public-private partnership conditions.
Plans were also reported for implementing projects to grow and process cold-water fish in Khanabad and to develop fish farming based on water bodies in Ulugnor.
The second part of the presentation was devoted to the development of lemon growing using the example of Balykchi District. It is planned to build energy-saving greenhouses on an area of 100 hectares near nine mahallas and provide them to entrepreneurs in fully ready-to-use form. All stages of production, from growing lemons to sorting, processing, packaging, storage, and sales, will be combined into a single cooperative chain.
Particular attention was paid to involving unemployed and low-income families in the project. According to preliminary calculations, at least 1,000 local residents will be provided with jobs in 500 greenhouses. Before the lemon trees begin to bear fruit, additional income can be generated by growing other agricultural crops between the rows.
Based on the Balykchi experience, it is planned to build energy-saving greenhouse complexes in the regions next year with a total area of 200 hectares for low-income families and the unemployed. It is expected that this will increase the incomes of 2,000 families.
At the end of the presentation, the head of our state instructed the responsible officials to take measures to provide financial support for the presented projects aimed at reducing poverty, as well as to compensate the costs of training the population in fish farming and lemon growing.
