Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz

In 2018-2022, the average yield of cotton and wheat increased in Uzbekistan, the correspondent reports Podrobno.uz .

Experts from the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRI) assessed the effectiveness of land use in agriculture.

According to their data, in 2018-2022, the acreage in the republic as a whole decreased by 1.3% - from 3.396 million hectares to 3.353 million hectares.

The area of perennial plantations increased from 432.5 thousand hectares to 488.6 thousand hectares or by 13% over the specified period.

Experts note that one of the goals set during this period was a gradual reduction in the area of wheat and cotton crops. In 2018-2022, the share of wheat and cotton in the total sown area decreased from 73.5% to 69.5%.

At the same time, it is noted that the ongoing reforms in the cotton and grain sectors have made it possible to achieve a significant increase in productivity for these crops.

The average yield of cotton in the republic in 2018-2022 increased by 62.4%, that is, from 21 quintals per hectare to 34.1 quintals per hectare. Wheat yield increased from 41 quintals per hectare to 47.2 quintals per hectare, or by 15.1%.

According to IMRI, over the specified five-year period, the average income in the republic as a whole increased from 1 hectare of cultivated area from 42 million soums per hectare to 46.5 million soums.

The largest increase in average income per 1 hectare of land during this period was achieved in the following areas:
  • in Ferghana (+24.5%),
  • in Namangan (+20.2%),
  • in Kashkadarya (+17.8%),
  • in Syrdarya (+17.3%),
  • in Surkhandarya (+15.8%).

Experts emphasize that in order to achieve the goal set in the Strategy "Uzbekistan – 2030" to increase the average income per hectare to $ 5,000, it is necessary to increase the average per hectare income by 18.9% from its level in 2022, which amounted to $ 4,205.
