Measures to develop livestock and poultry farming were discussed
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation on measures to develop livestock and poultry farming, increase the production of meat and dairy products, as well as the introduction of modern technologies into the field.
The growing population of the country and the increase in tourist flows also increase the demand for food products. Today, the annual demand for meat is 2 million 150 thousand tons, while production volume is about 1 million 600 thousand tons.
In this regard, a set of measures has been developed to increase the volume of livestock production in 2026-2028. It was noted that by restoring suspended enterprises, supporting areas specializing in livestock farming, building light-weight cowsheds in households and implementing new projects, it is possible to produce an additional 190 thousand tons of meat.
In particular, it is planned to improve the health of 103 livestock enterprises that have suspended their activities. It was proposed to restructure their debt or provide the opportunity to repay in installments for a period of ten years, allocate land plots for growing fodder crops and provide enterprises with breeding livestock. As a result, the maintenance of 33 thousand heads of cattle will be ensured, which will allow the annual production of 12 thousand tons of meat and 40 thousand tons of milk.
In 13 districts specializing in livestock farming, it is planned to effectively use 75 thousand hectares of fodder areas, finance small livestock projects, and also create milk collection points and feed sales outlets.
In addition, it is planned to build 11 thousand cowsheds of light structures on 20 acres on private farms, where 421 thousand heads of cattle will be maintained.
As part of 802 new projects worth 3 trillion soums, it is planned to create conditions for keeping more than 68 thousand heads of cattle, as well as 186 thousand heads of sheep and goats. The implementation of these projects will make it possible to annually produce an additional 20 thousand tons of meat and 120 thousand tons of milk.
The results of an analysis carried out using AI on the improvement of livestock complexes using the example of the Republic of Karakalpakstan are also considered. The debt of the 20 complexes studied amounted to 109.6 billion soums, with half of them classified as high risk. Most facilities lack feeding space and the necessary infrastructure.
Based on this, proposals were voiced to reduce the debt burden, form a feed base, gradually launch the complexes - first in pilot mode, and then in stages, as well as provide them with breeding stock.
It is planned to import 150 thousand heads of sheep from Mongolia, 100 thousand heads of breeding cattle from China and European countries, and 2 thousand heads of cattle from Belarus. This will create the opportunity for additional production of 44 thousand tons of meat per year.
In general, it is planned to allocate funds in the amount of $463 million for the development of the livestock industry.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of supporting private households of the population and mahallas specializing in livestock farming. Over the past period, 2 thousand 407 mahallas in 191 districts have been specialized, with a population of 3.9 million people.
It is proposed to provide such households with affordable breeding stock, carry out artificial insemination of cows, improve the provision of feed and veterinary services, identify breeding calves, and provide subsidies. It is expected that this will increase the number of livestock and productivity on farms, as well as create additional sources of income for citizens.
In the field of livestock breeding, it is planned to create farms in 13 regions designed to support 200 heads of cattle, carry out artificial insemination of 500 thousand cows annually using selected breeding material, and also widely introduce embryo transplantation technologies.
During the presentation, a proposal to create an Association of Livestock Breeders of Uzbekistan was also considered. The new structure will deal with protecting the interests of livestock farmers, developing cooperation, breeding work, scientific research and innovation, issues of financial support and access to foreign markets.
A unified digital assistant platform “Smart Farmer” for farmers and the public is also presented. Using the mobile application, it will be possible to identify livestock, call a veterinarian, obtain information on artificial insemination, feeding and pasture management, apply for subsidies, and also use AI advice.
In the poultry farming sector, it is planned to implement projects worth a total of $432 million. Through these projects, by 2028 it is planned to produce an additional 100 thousand tons of poultry meat, increase feed production capacity to 3.3 million tons, and also expand the coverage of modern slaughter systems from 20 to 50 percent.
The head of our state instructed the responsible persons to conduct an in-depth analysis of the economic efficiency of projects, ensure targeted and targeted allocation of funds, introduce digital accounting and monitoring systems, and also take measures to consistently supply the domestic market with high-quality and affordable products.
