The Agency for the Development of Livestock and Pasture Economy is being created
An agency for the development of livestock and pasture farming will be created under the Ministry of Agriculture. It will begin work on the basis of the Committee for the Development of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry. About thisit was saidat a meeting with the president on improving government administration in the field of food safety and support for livestock farming.
According to the analysis, over the past 25 years, in 42% of the world`s countries, the number of cattle has decreased by 12%. The main reasons are high feed costs, drought, environmental factors, high interest rates and declining incomes. As a result, average global meat prices have reached record levels.
As noted at the meeting, Uzbekistan has great potential for the development of livestock farming. The country has 16 million hectares of pasture, but only about 10% of this potential is used.
The new agency is tasked with increasing the number of cattle to 16.5 million, sheep and goats to 30 million, and poultry to 141 million. It is also planned to increase the level of meat and milk processing to 50%, the share of breeding stock to 90% and to increase the area of forage crops by 1.5 times.
Forexpanding the feed supply and improving livestock breeding in one district in Karakalpakstan and the regions will be specialized in livestock farming.
In these areas, it will be allowed to use 50% of cotton and grain areas for sowing fodder crops, and preferential loans will be allocated for this at 10% per annum. All farms will be allowed to build structures and feed warehouses from lightweight structures and silage pits on 20 acres of leased land without unnecessary bureaucracy.
By the end of the year, the task has been set to organize the breeding of 2 million heads of cattle on the lands of 28.7 thousand farms with at least 10 hectares of land.
Measures of financial support for livestock farming have also been determined. From June 1, commercial banks will provide loans for up to 10 years at 10% per annum with a grace period of 4 years. Importers of breeding stock will be exempt from value added tax until 2029.
Resources worth 1 trillion soums and $50 million will be placed in banks at 6% per annum. Using these funds, this year it is planned to implement 1,500 projects worth 5.5 trillion soums, create 25 thousand jobs and increase the number of cattle by 400 thousand heads.
A new program will be launched to train personnel and increase breeding stock. From June 1, leading agricultural universities will organize 10-day courses on artificial insemination. Every year it is planned to train at least 1,000 specialists and provide them with the necessary equipment free of charge.
For each breeding calf obtained in households through artificial insemination and embryo transfer, a subsidy will be paid in the amount of 500 thousand and 700 thousand soums, respectively. An additional 50 billion soums will be allocated for these purposes.
